Tow bar Types
Hitch Receiver towbars
The hitch receiver tow bar incorporates a removable square hitch that is fitted with a quick release pin. This allows quick removal of the tow hitch when not in use to save those shins. The square hitch tow bar can also provide a mounting point for a wide range of bike carriers. Please see our bike rack pages for details. The Hayman Reese towbar for the VW Jetta comes with a 40mm square socket.

The fitting of a towbar to a VW Jetta is a relatively lengthy job. The tow bar is made in sections with separate side arms being inserted into the chassis rails. The cross member spanning the rear panel of the vehicle bolts on to the side arms. This gives a strong structure with the load being spread into the vehicle chassis.
The Volkswagon Jetta has a multiplex wiring system which means the tail lights and brake lights share the same wires. Volks Wagon sell a special loom for this vehicle which like the Golf is sold for big dollars and requires re-coding of the ECU. For the bars we fit Hayman Reese have developed a vehicle specific loom and electronic control module which allows you to operate the trailer lights while protecting the vehicle electronics from any faults caused by defective trailer wiring. The vehicle computer does not require re-coding with this device as the trailer system is effectively invisible to the car as they do not draw their power from the cars lighting system.
Total fitting time is a fairly lengthy 3 to 4 hours because of the wiring and because we take a bit of time creating the bumper cut to create a neat window for the towbar to pass through.
The towbar comes fitted with a 50mm chrome towball, chrome cap and a seven pin flat trailer socket as standard.
